Former British finance secretary Rishi Sunak has become the first Tory leadership candidate to hit 100 public backers to make it onto the ballot paper for the race to succeed now ex-prime minister Liz Truss.
Sky News and Guardian reporters revealed the news on Friday, a day after Liz Truss resigned from her post and became the shortest-serving prime minister in the United Kingdom's history.
House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt also confirmed earlier today she would enter the race for the Tory leadership. The party election is expected to be completed before the end of the month.
