Rubio: US won't allow oil deals with Maduro

EPA-EFE/WILL OLIVER

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington will not allow third countries or their oil companies to work with President Nicolas Maduro's "regime" in Venezuela.

He warned that any country permitting its companies to produce, extract or export Venezuelan oil will face new tariffs, while companies involved will be sanctioned. "This is a regime that has consistently stolen elections, pillaged from its people and colluded with our enemies," Rubio stated.

His comments follow President Donald Trump's order imposing a 25% tariff on nations purchasing Venezuelan oil, set to take effect on April 2.
