Russia's Central Bank expects to make major legislative changes by 2022 regarding the adoption of the digital ruble, according to Olga Skorobogatova, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Russian Central Bank.
"This will give us the opportunity, considering that we will be conducting tests throughout the year, to have a clear understanding next year of what the roadmap for implementing the digital ruble might be," said Skorobogatova. At the same time, she was optimistic that should Moscow adopt new regulations, the country can reach the implementation "in the next few years."
The first transactions with the digital ruble were made in February. Previously, Bank of Russia Chair Elvira Nabiulina mentioned that the digital ruble would not replace traditional money but be another form of the Russian currency.
