Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Middle East Representative Mikhail Bogdanov (pictured) spoke on Monday with Deputy Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau Mousa Abu Marzook, as well as officials from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is internationally recognized as the official representative of the Palestinian people.
Bogdanov asserted Russia's position, urging an end to hostilities and a resolution of the humanitarian situation, "including the release of hostages," according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. He also stressed the importance of "restoring Palestinian national unity" in order to create a Palestinian sovereign state "with its capital in East Jerusalem, coexisting in peace and security with Israel."
