Moscow is ready to respond with counter-sanctions in case the European Union imposes any on it, Russia's permanent representative to the bloc Vladimir Chizhov (pictured) told Greece's EPT1 on Saturday.

"Russia is not afraid of anything, it is not afraid of anyone. Including [European Commission President] Ms [Ursula] von der Leyen and Mr [United States President Joe] Biden. But I was impressed by their phraseology that Russia will see the 'mother of all sanctions.' [...] It reminds me of Saddam Hussein's vocabulary," he said.

His remarks come after the United States, the United Kingdom, and the EU all threatened to impose sanctions on Russia in case it invades Ukraine.
