Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (pictured) has sent a letter to the Council of Europe informing the organization that Russia is withdrawing from it, Russian State Duma Deputy Chairman Pyotr Tolstoy said on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Council of Europe announced plans to remove Russia from the body as a result of its intervention in Ukraine.
However, Moscow decided to leave the international humanitarian organization founded on its own with Lavrov accusing it of "spreading of tales of western superiority, and narcissism."
