Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov stated on Tuesday that Moscow recognizes the new authorities established in Sudan. Answering to the press, the official confirmed that Russia recognizes Sudan's military which has been ruling the country since ousting President Omar al-Bashir in a coup. Bogdanov said that Moscow also continues to maintain ties with Sudan.
Al-Bashir, who ruled for over 25 years, was put under house arrest earlier last week. Meanwhile, Sudanese military called on political parties in the country to choose an "independent" prime minister.
Over the weekend, Sudanese activists reported that 16 people have been killed since the military forced al-Bashir to step down while at least 20 people have been injured during the rallies across the country.
