Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stationed in trenches along the front lines said Russia was using drones to deploy tear gas, Business Insider reported, citing sources.

The highly flammable tear gas allegedly being dropped into trenches occupied by Ukrainian troops is causing fires, respiratory issues, skin irritation and it is resulting in the deaths of those affected if exposed to the gas long enough. "This gas burns, blinds you, you can't breathe and shuts down your throat immediately," one affected soldier reportedly said.

Nine of these tear gas attacks have been reported so far causing one fatality and multiple injuries. Significantly, the use of tear gas in warfare is prohibited by the United Nations Chemical Weapons Convention of 1997.
