First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations (UN), Dmitry Polyansky (pictured right), stated on Monday that his country has requested the UN Security Council (UNSC) to hold an emergency meeting on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) on Tuesday.
Writing on his account on Telegram, Polyansky said that Russia has also requested that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who visited Ukraine earlier this month, speaks at the session. He added that the meeting should focus on what he described as Ukraine's provocations against the ZNPP, which "threat international peace and security."
Russia and Ukraine have both been accusing each other of creating provocations around the ZNPP for some time now. Recently, Kiev suggested establishing the demilitarized zone around the plant, which the United States supported, but Moscow rejected. Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it is discussing taking a mission to the plant with all the parties involved.
