Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized on Saturday Canadian Ambassador Sarah Tracy's comments following her visit to a World War II memorial in St. Petersburg.
Zakharova labeled Tracy's remarks "blasphemous" for equating Soviet responsibility in the war with that of Nazi Germany.
Tracy had laid flowers at the Piskaryovskoye Cemetery and shared on social media that "the best offering to the dead is the truth," referencing both Nazi atrocities and the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
