Moscow called on Pyongyang to stop its nuclear development and missile tests on Wednesday after North Korea fired a ballistic missile that fell into the Sea of Japan yesterday, TASS reported. Russia also urged South Korea and the United States to halt joint military exercises planned for December in order not to provoke the regime further.

"We call on North Korea to stop its missile nuclear tests and on the US and the Republic of Korea to hold off from the unprecedentedly vast snap air force exercises announced to be held in early December that would only heat up the already troubled situation," Russia Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Russia stressed that its stance towards North Korea will remain unchanged, noting that there is no alternative in the current situation. "Russia’s position on the settlement of the situation regarding the Korean Peninsula is unchanged: an effective search for a long-term and mutually acceptable solution to the whole range of problems is possible only through hard and strenuous political and diplomatic work," the ministry concluded.
