Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov (pictured) said on Friday that his country sees some "signs" that an arms race with the United States has already begun.
"Making predictions about what the coming day has in store for us is probably inappropriate. But as far as the arms race is concerned, in a certain sense some of its signs are already being observed. At the very least, the destabilizing actions of the US are becoming an incentive for those countries that Washington has designated as "opponents" or "adversaries" to carry out compensatory countermeasures," Ryabkov told Kommersant in an interview, noting that Russia is not "chasing anyone."
The deputy foreign minister also noted that the US policy is currently "extremely hostile" towards Russia and that his country is not "formulating expectations" about what will happen when the new administration takes over in January.
