The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected and tracked Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) for the third straight day on Sunday, in what seems to be an uptick in activity.
NORAD first detected a pair of Russian TU-142 military aircraft on Friday, followed up by another detection of two Russian IL-38 military aircraft a day later. Sunday saw two Russian planes of the same type off the coast of Alaska. On all three occasions, the aircraft remained in international airspace in Alaska's ADIZ.
Russian activity in the Alaska ADIZ occurs "regularly" and is "not seen as a threat," NORAD said.
