South Korea's acting president, Han Duck-soo (pictured), ordered an "emergency meeting" in the wake of United States President Donald Trump's new tariffs. The meeting included Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun, as well as other government officials, Yonhap reported.
"As the situation is very grave with the approach of the reality of a global tariff war, the government must pour out all of its capabilities at its disposal to overcome this trade crisis," Han stated during the meeting, ordering the government to draw up support measures for industries impacted by the tariffs, such as the South Korean auto industry.
Later on Thursday, Choi is scheduled to hold a meeting on the tariffs' impact on financial and foreign exchange markets, while Ahn will hold a meeting to plan outreach to the US.
