South Korea held large-scale military drills around the islands of Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong near the Yellow Sea border with North Korea, Kyodo reported, citing the country's military.
According to them, drills involved the "Marines' quick maneuver force, the Navy landing ship (LST-II), the MUH-1 Marineon helicopter, and the Korean Assault Amphibious Vehicle (KAAV)," as well as AH-64E Apache army helicopter.
It was reported that the drills occurred amid fears that North Korea could "launch localized provocations ahead of next month's parliamentary elections in South Korea."
