Leader of South Korea's opposition Democratic Party Lee Jae-myung (pictured) said on Sunday that his party does not seek the impeachment of acting South Korean President Han Duck-soo. Han belongs to the ruling People Power Party, as does the newly impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol. However, Lee urged Han to "run the government from a neutral standpoint, regardless of political party," according to the Yonhap news agency.
Lee also proposed the formation of a non-partisan consultative body aimed at the "normalization of state affairs" and promised that his party will cooperate with others to "restore international trust" and calm economic uncertainty, including stabilizing financial markets. He also appealed to the Constitutional Court to expedite the decision on Yoon's impeachment, stressing that it is "the only way to minimize national chaos."
