Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez shared in a speech on Wednesday that the plan to up the country's defense spending will be launched by summer.
"The objective of this plan is for Spain to contribute to and, at the same time, benefit from this technological and industrial stimulus to strengthen the European security and defense area, while remaining faithful to our principles," he said while addressing Congress.
Countries across Europe vowed to boost their defense budgets, as the return of United States President Donald Trump brought back questions about Washington's future role in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
