The United States sanctioning Russian President Vladimir Putin personally would mean the breaking off of the relations between Moscow and Washington, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov remarked on Thursday.
Peskov also went on to describe the talks between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which took place the day before, as "unsuccessful." Following the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted the presence of a "real risk" the tensions between the alliance and Moscow would lead to a new armed conflict in Europe.
Peskov's comments come after the Democratic members of the US Senate unveiled their proposal for new sanctions on Russia in case it invades Ukraine, including some referring to Putin personally.
