Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said on the air of Oesterreich 1 radio on Monday that he is against the embargo on Russian natural gas, as energy sanctions primarily cause harm to the countries imposing them creating a "boomerang effect."

As other European ambassadors have proposed, Schallenberg agreed to extend the list of sanctions against Russia by the end of the week, noting that there are other sectors that can be sanctioned aside from the embargo on gas. Earlier, Austrian Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler suggested that new sanctions could limit Russian export and technological import into the country.

In addition, Schallenberg commented he was "shocked by the reports from Bucha," adding that "these are the pictures that we would not have expected in Europe," and that he hopes the case will be investigated by the International Criminal Court and the United Nations soon.
