The Saudi Public Prosecutor requested death sentence against at least five suspects accused of murdering journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Saudi state media reported on Thursday. The prosecutor sought the sentence in the first court hearing held for eleven suspects whose names still remain unknown.
The statement from the prosecutor also contacted the authorities in Ankara to ask for all the evidence collected so far in the investigation. "No response has been received to date and the Public Prosecutor’s Office is still waiting for an answer," the statement read.
Turkey asked for extradition of suspects from Saudi Arabia in October, but Riyadh rejected the request. Ankara vowed not to give on the investigation and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated Ankara would ask the United Nations to assist with the probe.
