Stanford professor Jay Bhattacharya won Senate confirmation as director of the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH), the top US biomedical research agency.
The upper congressional chamber confirmed Bhattacharya in a 53-47 vote, with all Republicans supporting him.
Bhattacharya aligned with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s vision to "make America healthy again" and pledged to prioritize chronic disease research while fostering open debate within NIH.
