Facebook Inc., Alphabet Inc.'s YouTube, and Twitter Inc.'s executives are all to testify before the United States Senate at its hearing on algorithmic amplification next week, Politico reported on Friday.

The upper house will hold the hearing on April 27 with the goal of investigating how algorithms applied on digital platforms contribute to the spread and visibility of misinformation, hate speech, and other harmful content.

Back in March, Senate Ethics Committee Chair Chris Coons told Politico he and his colleagues will "very likely" invite Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey, chief executive officers (CEO) of Facebook and Twitter, respectively, as they will "look at the intersection between privacy, civil liberties and civil rights in the digital context."
