Senior Taliban cleric killed in Kabul explosion

Taliban administration spokesperson Bilal Karimi announced on Thursday that senior Taliban cleric Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani was killed in Afghanistan's capital Kabul after an explosion.

"Very sadly informed that respected cleric was martyred in a cowardly attack by enemies," Karimi said in a statement.

Taliban Interior Ministry is investigating the incident, considering the possibility of assassination. The ministry added that Haqqani's death is "a huge loss for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan."
