The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) stated in a social media post on Thursday, that it detected and tracked "several" Russian military aircraft in the Arctic earlier this week.
The aircraft did not enter the United States or Canadian sovereign airspace, NORAD stressed, noting that Russian activity near Alaska is "normal" and is not "seen as a threat."
NORAD concluded the statement by adding that it employed a "layered defense network of satellites," as well as ground-based and airborne radars, along with fighter aircraft, and that it is prepared to use a "number of response options in defense of North America."
