Japan's Sharp Corp. is reportedly planning to move its production of laptops and other products intended for the United States market out of China in order to avoid US tariffs, Sharp's chairman Tai Jeng-wu said. "We have many production bases in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations where we can make them cheaply," he told reporters.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review report, Sharp's subsidiary Dynabook is making laptops in China and the production could be moved into Taiwan or Vietnam where Sharp and other companies of the Hon Hai Precision Industry group have facilities.
Tai also said that the company is considering relocating the production of large displays for advertising and offices to Mexico. Media reported earlier that Sharp plans to move its production of multifunction printers the company sells to the US market from China to Thailand.
