Open source messaging service Signal introduced several new mainstream features in the latest update, such as chat wallpapers, animated stickers and an "about" profile section. Next to that, iOS has received new settings to lower data usage during calls, automatically pause attachment downloads during calls as well as improved image compression.
The update comes amid a significant expansion in the number of new users on both Signal and Telegram, chat apps that the users are turning to after Facebook's new privacy policy for WhatsApp. Signal's expansion is further boosted by recommendations coming from billionaire Elon Musk.
