Stellantis said Wednesday that the federal government of Canada and the province of Ontario had signed a new deal with Stellantis-LG Energy Solution to boost state subsidies for constructing an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Windsor.
The new agreement comes after the firm had stalled construction of the $3.7 billion electric vehicle battery plant in May, claiming that Canada was not delivering on promised financial support. Production in the NextStar Energy battery factory will begin in 2024, creating around 2,500 new jobs.
"We are pleased that the Federal government, with the support of the Provincial government, came back and met their commitment of leveling the playing field with the IRA," Stellantis Chief Operating Officer for North America Mark Stewart said.
