Russian Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzya told reporters on Tuesday that calls to demilitarize the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant are "not serious."
"If we demilitarize it, the Ukrainians will immediately enter there. We are protecting the station," Nebenzya underlined, stating that the plant, in fact, is not even militarized. "There is no equipment. There is only the physical presence of the guards who guard the station. There is no artillery. Only trucks that bring military personnel," the Russian official noted.
Previously, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) urged all parties involved to make an agreement on the "immediate establishment of a nuclear safety and security protection zone" around the plant.
