Sunak 'regrets' appointing Williamson

Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced questions on the extent of his knowledge about expletive-loaded messages that former United Kingdom Minister without Portfolio Gavin Williamson allegedly sent to Member of Parliament Wendy Morton in September.

Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer probed Sunak on his remorse about Williamson's resignation, as the prime minister previously stated that he accepted it "with great sadness," thanking the minister for "personal support and loyalty." In his reply, Sunak emphasized that he "obviously regrets appointing someone who has had to resign in these circumstances," going on to say that integrity in public life matters and that Williamson made the right decision when he decided to step down.

Williamson resigned yesterday, facing an inquiry by the parliamentary Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme, saying that he intends to "fully with the complaints process" in an effort to clear his name of any wrongdoing.
