Former deputy first minister of Scotland, John Swinney (pictured in the center), announced his candidacy to succeed Humza Yousaf as Scottish National Party's (SNP) leader and Scotland's first minister.
"I want to unite the SNP and Scotland for independence," Swinney stressed during the press conference, adding that his goals would align closely with the principles of the center-left tradition if elected.
"The pursuit of economic growth, and social justice. Economic growth, not for its own sake, but to support the services and the society we all want to see," Swinney highlighted. The 60-year-old politician expressed his desire for Kate Forbes, his fellow leadership frontrunner, to join his new government team.
