Syria's Director of the General Intelligence Service Anas Hassan Khattab promised that the new government will work to transform the country's intelligence services to better reflect the interest of the state and the Syrian people.
"The units of the security apparatus will be restructured after their dissolution in a way that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people, who have suffered greatly from persecution," Khattab said, as reported by the Syrian National News Agency (SANA).
Khattab was appointed as the head of Syria's intelligence service on December 26. He is also the deputy commander of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) the militant group which played a key role in the ousting of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
