The National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces issued a statement on Thursday condemning Iran's statements that "aim to spread chaos, destabilize security and create sectarian strife in Syria."
"The National Coalition affirms that this group of Iranian agents and remnants of the defunct regime does not represent the Alawite sect, which has confirmed through more than one statement by the sect's notables and sheiks its support for the rest of the Syrian people and its support for holding accountable all those whose hands are stained with the blood of Syrians," the coalition said in the statement.
Earlier today, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei refuted claims that his country has a direct relationship with Syria's new government and emphasized preventing the "spread of insecurity and violence against different sections of the Syrian society."
