Taiwan's National Defense Ministry stated on Thursday that the island is ready to defend itself amidst "irrational" Chinese military drills, emphasizing that they do not wish to escalate the situation.

Taiwan's military forces "are operating as usual and monitor our surroundings in response to irrational activities from China, aiming for changing the status quo and destabilizing the region's security. We seek no escalation, but we don't stand down when it comes to our security and sovereignty," the ministry wrote on Twitter.

Earlier today, China began conducting military drills around Taiwan, with reports of Chinese Navy ships crossing the Taiwan Strait median line.
