At least three people died following a drone attack on an Iranian tanker close to Syria's coast on Saturday, according to a war monitor. The assault is reported to be a first of its kind in the last 10 years.

"At least three Syrians were killed, including two members of the crew. We don't know if this was an Israeli attack. [...] The Iranian tanker came from Iran and was not far from Bania's port," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Earlier, a fire broke out on an Iranian-owned oil tanker following what was believed a drone attack from the direction of Lebanese waters. The fires were soon extinguished.
