Thune 'extremely honored' to lead US Senate

Senator John Thune of South Dakota (pictured), who had just been voted the Republican majority leader in the United States Senate on Wednesday, said in a statement that he was "extremely honored" to have been picked for the position.

"I am beyond proud of the work we have done to secure our majority and the White House. This Republican team is united behind President[-elect Donald] Trump's agenda, and our work starts today," he remarked.

Meanwhile, over in the House of Representatives, media reports claim that Trump is backing incumbent House Speaker Mike Johnson for the position.
