The Trump administration is firing around 130 employees at the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), CNN reported, citing three sources familiar with the situation.
Some of the employees targeted for dismissal were working on efforts to combat Chinese cyberattacks on US infrastructure. While a DHS official stated the cuts would save taxpayers $50 million and streamline operations, one of the cited sources pointed out that some of the fired workers were part of essential, fully funded programs.
The layoffs, which affect probationary employees, are being conducted under the administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
