Israel does not intend to further escalate tensions in the Middle East region following the airstrike on Beirut in which at least ten Hezbollah commanders were killed, Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Daniel Hagari said on Friday.

"We are not aiming for a broad escalation in the region. We are operating in line with the defined objectives [of the war] and will continue to do so," Hagari emphasized.

Previously, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that a "new phase of the war" is starting and that the military will shift focus to the northern front with the objective of securing a safe return of residents of northern Israeli towns to their homes.
