Trump names Bessent acting chief of CFPB

United States President Donald Trump appointed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) after dismissing former head Rohit Chopra.

"I look forward to working with the CFPB to advance President Trump's agenda to lower costs for the American people and accelerate economic growth," Bessent said in a statement.

Last week, the US Senate confirmed Bessent, a former hedge fund manager, as treasury secretary with 68 votes in favor and 29 against.
