United States President-elect Donald Trump nominated Brendan Carr (pictured) as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Carr has been serving as a FCC commissioner since 2017 following his appointment during Trump's first term in office.
Trump said that Carr was unanimously confirmed by the Senate three times and that he was nominating him as FCC chief "because of his great work." The president-elect described Carr "as a warrior for free speech" who fought "lawfare" that aimed to restrict freedom of speech in the US.
Carr, a lawyer, notably opposed the calls to block billionaire Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, while accusing the administration of incumbent President Joe Biden of weaponizing federal agencies against him.
