Iran's stockpiles of enriched uranium are increasing at a "fast" pace, spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi (pictured) said on Tuesday, according to Mehr News Agency.
Kamalvandi pointed out that Iran's inventories of enriched uranium are currently at 370 kilograms, which is 70 kilograms more than the limit set by the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal. The spokesperson also announced that Iran started constructing an isotope production center at its Fordow nuclear site.
Iran said earlier this year that it is suspending some of its obligations under the JCPOA in response to US sanctions and the inability of European parties to the deal to fully circumvent the sanctions imposed by Washington.
