Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Tehran is prepared to resume the negotiations with Washington if the United States removes the sanctions it has imposed on Iran, local media reported.
After a meeting with the country's minister of foreign affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, Rouhani added that Iran was ready for talks regardless of whether or not the US rejoin the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as Iran nuclear deal.
The economy of Iran is currently weighed down by the US sanctions, which Washington gradually reintroduced after it left the nuclear accord. Rouhani earlier said that the main prerequisite for the renewal of talks was for the US to rejoin JCPOA.
