United States President Donald Trump said during a cabinet meeting on Monday that people in Greenland "want something to happen." The president reiterated the importance of Denmark's Arctic territory for US national security.
"We're dealing with people in Greenland who want something to happen," Trump clarified. "Greenland is calling us, we're not calling them," he added, rejecting the idea that the upcoming visits of high-ranking US officials to the island are a provocation.
It was previously reported that the second lady Usha Vance and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz will make separate visits to Greenland later this week, a move which the local authorities dubbed "highly aggressive." Trump previously argued in favor of the US annexing Greenland and declared he believed that it "will happen."
