Former United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell dropped the rates "too much," while not giving a clear answer as to whether he would seek to demote or remove him from his post in case he returns to the White House.
"I think it's the greatest job in the government... you show up to the office once a month... and you say 'let's flip a coin," joked Trump. When asked about his previous statement about removing Powell from office, Trump answered it was because he was keeping the rates "too high."
At the same time, Trump went on to say that Powell "dropped the hell out of the rates. He actually dropped them too much." According to Trump, a sitting president should at least have the right to say his opinion on whether the rates should increase or decrease.
