Representatives from Turkey, Sweden, Finland, and NATO met in Ankara to discuss Sweden's potential membership to the alliance, the Turkish presidency said on Wednesday.
The discussions revolved around Sweden's progress to join the military bloc under a trilateral agreement reached in Madrid last year. The parties agreed to continue working on outlining the concrete steps required for Sweden's accession to the alliance.
The statement comes hours after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan argued that it is unlikely that Sweden will join NATO at next month's summit in Lithuania, as it hasn't fulfilled Ankara's requests related to countering "terrorism" threats in its country.
