Russian and Iranian ambassadors have been summoned by the Turkish Foreign Ministry over alleged ceasefire violations committed by the Syrian government, a source from the ministry stated on Tuesday. According to the source, Syrian government forces breached ceasefire conditions in Syria's Idlib de-escalation zone. "On January 9, the Russian ambassador was summoned to our Foreign Ministry, we voiced our reaction and concerns in this regard, also asking him to convey the information to the regime in order to make it stop such actions," the source said.
Turkey, Russia and Iran are the guarantors of the de-escalation zones in Syria which were agreed through the Astana peace process. However, unlike Moscow and Tehran, Turkey maintains a negative stance towards the Syrian government and its leader Bashar al-Assad. Earlier today, Ankara's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused Assad's regime of fighting the "moderate opposition" in the country under the guise of operations against Al-Nusra militants.
