Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on Monday that the helicopter, carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the country's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, which crashed over the weekend killing both officials, may have had its signal turned off.
It is also possible that the helicopter did not possess the signal system, that would normally be received by Turkish air control, the minister said, adding that Ankara immediately contacted Tehran following the reports of the helicopter crash. Uraloglu said that it was too early to respond to allegations that the death of the Iranian president was an assassination attempt, adding that it is possible that the crash was an "accident" due to poor weather conditions.
United States Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer previously noted that there is "no evidence of foul play" in the helicopter crash that tragically killed the Iranian president and foreign minister.
