Turkish PM: Istanbul attacker identified

Turkey’s foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday that law enforcement in the country has identified the perpetrator of the January 1 nightclub attack in Istanbul. However, his identity remains unknown to the public.

Authorities in Turkey also announced that five suspects linked to the Islamic State (IS) group were arrested in the city of Izmir. They remain in custody. No comment was made in regard to the possible arrest of the man who shot at people in the Reina nightclub in Istanbul’s popular Ortakey. Since the attack, a number of the attacker’s photographs have emerged.

IS claimed the attack that killed 39 people.
