UAW files charges against Trump, Musk for comments

EPA-EFE/ALLISON DINNER

The United Auto Workers (UAW) filed federal labor charges against former United States President Donald Trump and billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk, accusing them of illegally attempting to intimidate workers, the UAW said Tuesday.

The charges stem from a conversation between Trump and Musk, held on X (formerly Twitter), where they discussed firing striking workers. During the conversation, Trump encouraged Musk to dismiss workers who participated in strikes, saying, "That's OK, you're all gone. You're all gone. So, every one of you is gone."

UAW President Shawn Fain condemned the remarks, labeling Trump a "scab" and accusing both Trump and Musk of siding against workers in favor of billionaires. Fain highlighted that their behavior is not only illegal under federal law but also indicative of their disregard for the rights of working-class people. During their conversation, Trump also expressed his intention to "close up" the US Department of Education.
