UEFA: ECJ's ruling not approval of Super League

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) said on Thursday that the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling in the Super League case "does not signify an endorsement or validation of the so-called ‘super league’."

In a statement, the UEFA stressed that the court's decision emphasizes "a pre-existing shortfall within UEFA's pre-authorisation framework, a technical aspect that has already been acknowledged and addressed in June 2022." Furthermore, the football organization said that it remains committed to the maintenance of the "European soccer pyramid," expressing its hope that the existing organizational model of European football "will be safeguarded against the threat of breakaways by European and national laws."

Earlier in the day, the European Court of Justice ruled that UEFA and the International Association Football Federation (FIFA) violated EU law by preventing the formation of a so-called Super League.
