UK's 2023 new car sales highest since pandemic

New car sales in the United Kingdom reached 1.9 million in 2023, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The number was 17.9% higher compared to 2022, although still 17.7% lower than in 2019.

The number of electric vehicles registered in the UK in 2023 stood at 315,000, which is 50,000 higher than in 2022. Meanwhile, the sale of hybrid cars grew by 27.1% year-on-year. The SMMT predicted vehicle sales will reach 1.97 million in 2024.
